I have similar issues with a Huawei E272 modem. After some time it
disconnects, and I have to unplug and plug the modem again in order to
connect again.
Disconnection occurs much less often and also reconnection is possible
without replugging the modem if there is some keep-alive network traffic

This happen on other distribution also, maybe this issue is come from
networkmanager. Suddenly got disconnect when running networkmanager ver
0.8.9997, older networkmanager works fine on me :), maybe you should
post to upstream about this issue
