Hi all,
I'm the original reporter of this bug and sorry for my inactivity for a while.
I have upgraded my FUJITSU FMVNP2PL to precise, then this bug is no longer
reproducible. Edge scrolling works.
I will mark this bug Invalid as no longer reproducible.
If you're still experiencing this bug and
Nobuto MURATA, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/
I tested this on my Hp Dm3z on 12.04 LTS after updating and the touch
pad side scrolling still wasn't working.

After doing some searching, I found a bunch of bugs that looked like
duplicates of this one (Also ALPS pointing devices), so I marked them as
such. I hope the new information helps. I'm new at this, so feel free to
change them back if they're not duplicates.

settings in the touchpad section work. Not even disabling it. Thank you

To everyone experiencing this issue:
Please add a comment which clearly states which kernel you are running,
the vendor and model name of your system (as they would be found on the
vendors website) and the results from cat /sys/class/dmi/id/*.

Although I tried to test the kernel, it is for Natty. Currently I don't have
Natty environment for the machine.
It would be appreciated if you prepare Oneiric kernel as well.

The touchpad control panel name in gnome is deceptive, in reality it
only works for devices that use the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics driver.
These newer Alps touchpads use a undocumented and proprietary protocol
that ALPS will not open source and has not been reverse engineered yet,

@nobuto
I've uploaded a test kernel that I'm hoping will fix this issue for the
FUJITSU FMVNP2PL. The test kernels are located in
http://people.canonical.com/~bradf/lp747092.
Let me know if this solves the problem or not for that system.
Thanks,

I confirm this on Lenovo G550. No scrolling with the Touchpad. Output of xinput
list:
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ PS/2 Mouse id=12
I am affected too -- HP Pavilion dm3, ALPS pointing device.
Slightly unrelated but It looks like there are many bugs for -synaptics
that may be duplicates for this one.
