The newly released Catalyst (fglrx) 11.10 driver contains a bug-fix for
a segmentation fault occurring under Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit. Can anyone
test and report back here?

Hi, I'm having the same issue. I tried sudo aticonfig --initial -f but
no luck. I've attached my Xorg.0.log

That looks like there is no fglrx kernel module installed for the -pae
kernel. Normally DKMS should build the kernel module automatically when
you boot your -pae kernel. If that's not happening for some reason, that
may be a bug in DKMS.
You can manually tell DKMS to build the fglrx kernel module
I already deleted my PAE kernel, therefore I reinstalled the removed packages:
apt-get install linux-generic-pae linux-image-2.6.38-8-generic-pae
linux-image-generic-pae
These are the interesting lines:
run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postinst.d/dkms 2.6.38-8-generic-pae

After some more trying I found the following facts: Default kernel is
vmlinuz-2.6.38-8-generic-pae,
but when I use vmlinuz-2.6.38-8-generic (i. e. without this physical address
extension) it works
perfectly. Are there boot option which prevent a fglrx crash?

Yesterday I updated from 10.10 to 11.04 on my Lenovo T400 with a Radeon HD 3400
graphics card.
When I boot with the shipped kernel 2.6.38-8 the X server crashes, with the
last kernel 2.6.35-28
it works fine. (See attachments)
I ran aticonfig as suggested but , alas, at no avail. Maybe there is

xorg.conf. Looks xorg.conf was originally created by a really old
version of fglrx. Could you try the following steps to reinitialize the
fglrx configuration:
1) Reboot the system, in the boot loader select Recovery mode

I am also experiencing something similar with an 10.10-11.04 upgrade .
I tried changing to 'Driver ati' in the config (as suggested above)
but the screen then becomes unusable (before I was at least able to
access the physical terminals).
