black, do you still face this issue with the final version of Ubuntu
11.04? Could you try to create a new user, login there and see if the
issue happens or not.

thanks for the bug report. Can you please test if the package unity-
place-applications is installed on your system. Also can you check if
the process unity-applications-daemon is running by this command
$ ps -x | grep unity-applications-daemon
