I had a similar problem. I ran the update and after the reboot the X
server would not start. /var/log/Xorg.0.log shows what is below. I
have an Nvidia 8800gts 640mb with Nvidia binary drivers. After
reinstalling the Nvidia driver, everything works now.

bugreport? It should contain information about the exact happenings.

Update manager failing to update packages
I have already done a reinstall, so those files no longer exist. If I
attempt to update again and the same error occurs, I will try to attach
those files. However, because I am unable to use the GUI and I am pretty
much a novice, I doubt I'd know how to send those files.

On 2/21/07,
I experienced similar problems yesterday. If this is a duplicate bug, I
didn't find anything similar. If this isn't a duplicate, has this issue
been looked into?
