Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debconf

When upgrading (for example) grub via update-manager when a custom
/etc/default/grub is present, a window is shown that allows the user to
pick an action to carry on the file, including side-by-side and three-
way diffs to aid taking decisions. For the last few times I've tried to
use the diff options (which I always do, so I don't know about the other
options), the dialogue simply closes and keeps my old /etc/default/grub.
I think this has been an issue since lucid, and continues as of natty.
This used to work fine in earlier releases.
