With respect, please don't be too hasty to close bugs. KPilot is now
completely non-functional, as I cannot connect. Every time I plug in,
the USB device is different; even if I've set permissions on it before,
these are blown away. KPilot doesn't work as root either. I consistently
get I/O errors.
I do believe this has been fixed. I am also closing the report due to a
lack of a response from the original reporter. If you feel this is still
an issue I urge you to reopen this report. Thank you.

Yes, that looks like a possibility. I will try the compile-from-source
solution offered in that bug and report back whether it works.
