So far in testing 11.10 beta this issue doesn't seem to be present - but
it's still a problem on my 11.04 install.

Occurs on every startup for me also - all indicator applets apart from
the power button will not be 'clickable'. The workaround is to click the
power button and move the mouse left across the other applets, which
shows their menus. Alternatively a unity --replace fixes the issue if I

Sound indicator applet does not respond to mouse
I can confirm that compiz --replace fixes the problem for me. For me
it's now often only the network manager applet that doesn't respond, but
sometimes other applets also fail. But in every case after doing a
compiz --replace I get all applets working.

In previous versions of Ubuntu (at least all versions that have had the
Ambiance theme) there was a problem with the top panel where sometimes the
icons in the notification area didn't display correctly, and as a result didn't
work properly. With that bug the easy workaround was to increase
I can confirm this as well on an upgrade Natty install. For me
everything left of the sound applet does not respond (nm-applet, battery
applet, monitor applet). I also set the whitelist to all. Interestingly
the icons that this permitted to be visible (keepassx, quicksynergy) are
responsive.

As a side note I think I found a workaround. I believe that running
'compiz --replace' correct the issue. pkill -HUP compiz may also take
care of it. The effects of both commands seem similar.
I offer this after HUPing a lot of process, but the compiz --replace
finally did correct it for me.
I'm out of town right now, so I don't have access to my desktop, but
I'll try this once I get back. Thanks for the suggestion.

I think I've figured this out a bit, or at least I can give steps to reproduce.
(I should note that since I did a clean install of the release version on my
eeePC, I haven't had problems - although I haven't really touched the settings
either.)
On my desktop (fglrx graphics) I can create the

Is there anything I can do to figure out what's going on here? The
problem doesn't seem to be limited to the sound indicator. On my
desktop right now both sound and network don't respond to direct clicks
(although as usual, if I click on something that works and then move the
mouse over, I can

As of today, clicking on the clock also sometimes does not work. I have
the same settings on an eeePC and do not have the same problems. Is it
maybe an fglrx problem?

I can confirm similar behaviour on my eeePC after having applied the
latest updates. Right now on my eeePC clicking on clock, me-menu, shut-
down work, clicking on sound works 50% of the time, and clicking on the
network and weather indicators works not at all.
