I have the same problem. My MB is a MSI 915g Combo with Via VT6410 Controller.
This problem occurred with ubuntu 6.10 and 7.04, and Debian Etch 4.0
The kernel panic message is the same related above. It is solved?

I tested the kernel proposed in the beta and the error persist. Monday,
by morning, I will try to take a picture of the screen showing the
registers values. Also, I will build last kernel locally, as Ben Collins
asked, and will put here the results.

Hi, you're missing the most important portion of the dump. Can you try
shift-pageup to get the whole text? The part in particular we need is
the register dump (eax, ebx, etc.)

you could try to change vga mode to a higher resolution during boot to
achieve a higher resolution. VGA=791 would probably be enough. Ah, try
removing the date, as it got quite big :-)

I tried all the options in the live-cd (F4 option) and there is no boot.
The computer freezes (numlock inactive).
So I try pass VGA options in 'Boot Option' (Surak's suggestion) . I
tried VGA= 769 | 771 | 773 | 775 | 788 | 791 | 796, but I don't have
sucess in both case.

Hi people,
I try boot from Ubuntu Alternative in this controller without sucess.
All options - text, OEM and command-line - was tested but I receive
'kernel panic' to all situations.
I use Herd 2 (Feisty).

The output was generated using a vanilla kernel, but I think that the
.config is not from ubuntu...I will verify with Helton.
The 'lspci -n' output:

Yes, the lsmod output was generated with the vanilla kernel 2.6.17-10
using the .config of Ubuntu Dapper, Kernel 2.6.15-27.
Perhaps I am missed on this, but didn't see any patch regarding this
specific device.
As Grazieno said, the 'lspci -n' output is:

Did you take a look at ubuntu's patches regarding this specific device?
