And I am not any more! (take the bug, pass it arount... ;-) )
it was an option in compiz which wasn't activated:
go to compiz config settings manager > unity > experimental
put "dash blur" to "active blur" (I had static blur selected)
It solved it for me.

I think this is the same issue:
-open the dash
-switch workspace using keyboard shortcut
-reopen the dash: the background hasn't chang ! It is still the first app.
It refreshes only if you maximize/unmaximise the dash
This is very weird: I have from time to time a terminal background in the da
The issue is it LOOKS very unprofessional. The cause is the Dash
transparency setting of "static" and what it remembers. For some
reason, my beta version was defaulted to this and if it were not for me
__knowing__ to look in the compiz configuration settings would I have
figured it out.
A better
easily reproduce able but as this feature is not enabled by default I am
marking it as wishlist.
