Public bug reported: Feisty Fawn
#cat /etc/issue Ubuntu feisty (development branch) \n \l #uname -a Linux cdw-ferrari 2.6.20-1-lowlatency #3 SMP PREEMPT Wed Dec 13 17:49:52 UTC 2006 x86_64 GNU/Linux I connected to a Windows 2003 network and got DHCP from the DC. # cat /etc/resolv.conf domain company.local nameserver 10.0.0.200 # ping www.yahoo.com unknown host: www.yahoo.com I threw Wireshark on the interface and found that it was sending a MDNS query to 224.0.0.251 which is the multicast broadcast address. Since there is no multicast on this network I couldn't resolve the name. Thanks, David Wilde ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- .local in domain line of resolv.conf activates MDNS https://launchpad.net/bugs/76067 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
