I've seen the same problem on a friend's 5102wlmi laptop, and it can be
solved like this :
1- Right click on the volume control icon
2- Mute the sound
3- Unmute the sound
Then, you have sound on both headphones. Note that you will have to do
it everytime you restart your laptop.
IMPORTANT : Th
Reduce the volume for the right channel, and slide the volume button for the
left channel until you start to hear the sound.
It is important to reduce the volume for the right channel, first !!!
After reboot, I have to do this again, so this is a bug.

I found the solution:
Open the Volume Control, and in tab Volume, unlock channels for Volume together
(click the "chain" icon). Move the volume for the left channel until you hear
the sound for the left channel. Finaly, lock the channels.
