Sorry for the false hope - it seems to depend where on the top panel you
click. I opened a gnome-terminal, maximized it via a double click on the
window border, then double clicked right next to the "Help" menu item in
the top panel and the window restored to its original position. Double
clicking
I can confirm that issue is NOT FIXED in Oneiric Alpha 3 (+with updates
to 28.09.2011)

To confirm the correctness of your comment, I downloaded the daily build of
Oneiric, and turned out to be a huge disappointment for the reason that the
issue remains. Hope it will be killed on the final release.

BTW, if you click window control button to restore windows, it will not
shift. Only double click on bar shift window to right.
