Public bug reported:

Using LiveCD .iso's for 6.10 and 6.06 downloaded earlier this month, 6.06, once
configured using the Networking GUI, can use a brand new US Robotics Sportster
on COM1 everytime activation is attempted.
With the same configuration, the LiveCD for version 6.10 will not interact with
this hardware in any visible or audible way.

This is completely repeatable on my hardware - Dell Dimension XPS T450.

I read about the lack of support for soft-modems, and specifically
bought an external hardware modem to use with this machine to get
Linux/Ubuntu working.

In order for folks to get documentation, help, or updates, this NEEDS to
be fixed.

** Affects: Ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
