Public bug reported:

OS : kubuntu 6.10.

symptoms : parallel port (LPT1) node is not created even though a
detected peripheral is connected (hp printer in my case - this causes
the printer not to be functional).

workaround : manually create the node using the following command
[code]sudo mknod -m 666 /dev/parport0 c 99 0[/code] as advised here :
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=316233&highlight=parport0+printer

reproductible : always, after system reboot

may be related to udev
