my point is not to deprecate anything or anyone, instead, I want to help them.
the kxstudio code/fixes/patches are public available, and so as my new
'cadence' tools.
The PPAs (upgrade) is just to ease installation of new software.

Right, that worked. I am just a *little* worried about switching from
Ubuntu Studio to KXStudio, though -- isn't Ubuntu Studio meant to be the
more stable version? Or is Ubuntu Studio now completely deprecated? I
would have though that anything associated with an LTS (ie Lucid) would
not get

You're using the _only_ the old repos, which are deprecated now.
please these 2 ppas:
ppa:kxstudio-team/ppa
and
ppa:kxstudio-team/kxstudio
then try to force the upgrade.

Also seems to affect plain Lucid with Ubuntu Studio overlay. Basically
the same clash, though this seems to be in reverse:

I actually though this bug was already fixed, I was really going to close it...
you seem to be using an old jack version...
I think the problem is the remaining jack in the old PPAs, so I'll delete it.

@falkTX how could I update Jack? Synaptic is telling me that what I have
installed (6:1.9.6~dfsg.1-3ubuntu2+fixes1~lucid2) is the latest (and
this is after updating).
I could theoretically force version to the main Lucid one
(0.118+svn3796-1ubuntu2), but then it wants to uninstall about two dozen
It seems ubuntustudio-audio depends on Jack being the
6:1.9.6~dfsg.1-3ubuntu2+fixes1~lucid2 version, and in turn a ton of
audio software depends on ubuntustudio-audio...
