Thanks for your bug. I see you are using unofficial compiz packages. Can
you test with official compiz packages from feisty, with a fresh
install, and tell us if this bug still exists?

I did use the official packages, but it doesn't happen on herd-3 anymore

Confirmed on a fresh upgrade from edgy. place plugin is disabled by
default, and hidden in the settings dialogue from http://www.compiz.biz

Not a bug in compiz-settings. You should try turning on place plugin if
it's not already.

Also, make sure you're not switching from compiz to beryl or beryl to
compiz as for some reason this causes problems. Either start compiz from
metacity or have it start instead of metacity.
