RT3090 Internal Wi-fi Stability/Connectivity Issue

Problem solved on my RT2860 chip as well with the new 11.10 Beta. I can
confirm that power management is On when on battery power (according to
iwconfig) and that the connection doesn't loose performance or drops.
Driver is rt2800pci according to lsmod.

I've just tested Oneiric beta 1 through a live session on my netbook,
and I no longer seem to be having any connectivity issues.
Can anyone else confirm that this is the case for them with the same
wireless chip? If so I believe this bug should be closed with "Fix

I'm currently on holiday so I probably won't be able to test that until
early next month.
Another thing, I think there may be similarities (duplicate?) between
this bug and the one I reported:

Duh. The reason for the above is that the staging driver rt2860sta had
bound to the hardware. And rt2860sta does not support power management
setting via iwconfig (it needs iwpriv). Hence the error message. After
incapacitating the rt2860sta module (by renaming it) rt2800pci took over

When running the commands (sudo iwconfig wlan0 power on/sudo iwconfig
wlan0 power off) with Natty's default drivers, they complete
successfully without anything being displayed on the screen (I didn't
try iwconfig); however, when I run them with the latest wireless driver,
I get the following outpu
That shouldn't happen. So what does it say when you do:
sudo iwconfig wlan0 power on
and what does:
iwconfig
say?
Can you tell whether power saving is on or off now?

@Wolfgang
The latest wireless driver tarball, installed following your
instructions, seems to have totally fixed the problem for me; however I
note that the card doesn't seem to support power saving state changing
through iwconfig any more.

I am not so sure that you see the same bug as Timothy's as the hardware is
different, but it would also be interesting to have your results with the
latest daily compat-wireless tarball.

Thanks Timothy,
and sorry for the late reply. If you have the time it would be good to know
whether the bug also shows with the latest upstream development version of the
rt2800pci driver. You can get that by compiling the latest daily

@wolfgang No, my problem is the one from bug #797401 and I'm also
affected by this so that's why I'm also reporting my findings in here.

Hi Wolfgang,
Sorry if I sounded in anyway impolite in my previous comment - I was in
a rush at the time of writing.
I tried all of the suggestions in your post, but none of them appeared
to have any effect on the problem ("sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off" still

Assuming that your hardware (and bug) is the one from bug 797401 I'll

RT3090 Internal Wi-fi Stability/Connectivity
Just tested with my rt2860 and using the kernel from proposed and the
firmware package from comment #7 made no difference whatsoever. Here is
the extra requested data from my system:

Linux dragonfly 2.6.38-10-generic #46-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 28 15:05:41 UTC 2011

Hi Timothy,
the test firmware package is named this way (older than the normal
package) so that it does not stick around forgotten on peoples systems
after testing. An upgrade removes it because the normal package looks
newer as per the naming scheme. For testing it has to be installed
even though
Also, what exactly is incomplete about my bug report?
