Hi Chris. Thanks for your thorough response and suggestions. Unfortunately the
laptop stopped responding so often that I gave up using Ubuntu on my personal
laptop and switched to the native OS, after being an avid Ubuntu user since
5.04. I did install 12.04 and still boot to it once in a while,

bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it

On my thinkpad T520 with ubuntu 12.04 beta I have this problem, but it
only affects the touchpad and not the trackpoint.

can still connect a usb-mouse, which works immmediately.
the touchpad, don't ask me why, doesn't wake up.
what's the name of the service, if there's any? i could restart that
service manually to bring my touchpad back then.. a workaround until the
issue is resolved.

I've had this happen once when waking from suspend, and twice just
randomly. Didn't know how to resolve it so I had to hard-power-off each
time. Very ugly.

I am also facing similar problem on Dell Latitude E6500.
Touchpad pointer is working but, pointer speed become too slow and
scroll stops working after waking up from suspend.

The problem, at least for me, is not restricted to waking up from
suspend.
For example, when using the Nvidia Xserver Settings, if I plug another
monitor and, in XServer Display Configuration I click the Detect
Displays button, the touchpad stops responding (right and left click
