I have checked through all input fields of system-config-printer in
Oneiric (1.3.6) now and there slashes can be entered in all fields for
URIs. In fields for host names they cannot be entered a s host name
cannot contain a slash. Closing ...

sorry for the delay in responding since then I did 2 things
1: I got round the problem by keying in IP address and port (ex: 1(
21.168.0.40:631) this fixed the issue
2: I have since then I have rebuilt the Laptop in order to do a dual boot
with Windows Vista and had no trouble with
Please describe in more detail at what step you can't key in the slashes (e.g.
screenshot)?
Note that CUPS printer names may not contain slashes so they are filtered out.
