Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz
Running compiz, I have severe screen refresh issues with Emacs, making it unusable at times. Steps to reproduce: Open up Emacs and maximise it. Split into two vertical panes (Ctrl-x 3). Load a long file into first pane Press 'Alt-tab' to switch to another window. It does not matter if there is another window open or not, so long as the "Application Switcher" window appears. Switch back to Emacs if it isn't focussed. Attempt to scroll by pressing Page Down Result: Very often, the page of text flickers, but does not scroll down. If you get the window to redisplay somehow, it is obvious that it has scrolled down, but has not been redisplayed by compiz properly. I've found that if I use an alternate method of refocusing Emacs e.g. clicking, or even using Alt-Tab with the "Ring Switcher" enabled in compiz instead of the "Application Switcher", this behaviour does not happen. I've found that this happens even if the Emacs window is not maxmized, but the more of the screen it covers, the more it happens. Once this starts happening, I have to close and restart Emacs, or change its window size, to fix its behaviour. I'm using 'Click to focus = off' in compiz, but that doesn't seem to make a difference. I have noticed other screen refresh issues with some applications, but nothing as clearly as this.
