sorry, everything works real fine, while i am restart-phob since using windows
for a long time and restarting forever, i haven't restarted after
updating...now after booting up this morning everything looks great ;-)
no issues regarding this bug anymore!

after the last update to Thunderbird 3.1.10 it works just fine ;-)
only thing is: the space where the menu-bar was before is still there,
resulting in an empty space between the panel and the button-bar so
there is actually no real space-saving by the globalmenu.
