Sorry, I reported this bug 40 days ago, and don't have access to the
given machine anymore, so I cannot attach any further output. The
machine is now 450 kms away and I have no SSH access to it for the time

It may be worht noting that on same system :
- KDE desktops effects work happily.
- Tying to use the experimental NVidia driver instead of the
proprietary NVidia driver causes graphics crash when trying to run
glxgears, and doesn't help in any way in getting Unity to start.
