I have this problem too!
Fedora 6 / Firefox 2.0.0.3 & 2.0.0.4!
But partition is NTFS, not VFAT. To the root partition (ext3) Firefox saves
correctly, but to the NTFS partitions sometimes add double extension, but
sometimes creates files with correct extension but zero sized and save nothing.

This sounds like a Vfat issue more than a firefox issue. Can anyone with
downs please try this and let us know if this is same for you? I dont
have a windows partition so i can test it.
