The logs contain no error information at all. As far as the OS is
concerned, the video card is working perfectly.
This is probably caused by the external monitor negotiation / missing
VSync error combination that Andy diagnosed last week.

Testing uncovered more information on this:
Running without Unity in classic mode does not cause the hard freeze.
The system sees the external monitor but it will not work.
If you have a window running glxgears, move it to the external
(nonworking) monitor and then unplug the cable, glxgears

This is a different bug, but I suffer also from that bug. The dmesg text
is from an earlier instance of that bug.
The kernel hard freeze does not write anything to any log as it is
immediate and irrecoverable.
