SOLUTION:
This worked for me, edit your dosbox.conf file and find the part to
replace with this:
fullscreen=true
fulldouble=false
fullresolution=1024x600
windowresolution=1024x600
output=overlay
autolock=true
sensitivity=100
waitonerror=true
priority=higher,normal
mapperfile=mapper-0.74.map
same here, wheneveer i try to exit full screen mode from dosbox
(alt+enter) systemn freezes big time, only way to exit is either to hard
reboot or to shift+alt+F1 and work your way out.

I can confirm this bug too. It happens whenever ?I try switching to
fullscreen using the Alt+Enter binding. Restarting gdm from TTY fixes
the problem.

I'm having the same problem. Dosbox wasn't upgraded when I upgraded from
Maverick to Natty and I never had this problem in Maverick.
To get this problem, Dosbox must be started in windowed mode.
If Dosbox is started in windowed mode, I am able to change between
windowed and fullscreen modes whenever I want. should have read If
Dosbox is started in *fullscreen* mode[...].
