Not quite understanding the issue here: are you seeing only a black
screen (plus mouse pointer) *after* you enter the correct password, or
is this just that the screensaver isn't being displayed correctly?

I've observed the same behavior (desktop blank or frozen in it's last
state after the screen saver [blank] has been on). Unfortunately, I
don't know how to reproduce it, but it occurs quite often for me, at
least once a day at this point.
kill -9ing compiz on a VT will get X t
I hit the bug today one more time, I tried to use unity --replace
without success.
When I noticed that unity tried to replace compliz and that I still had
a old (pid ~3300, when current pid was ~28000) I tried to kill compiz,
no success, then I tried a pkill -9 compiz, and I managed to recover my
