Oh wow, that was fast! =D (The new version just downloaded)
The good news is that it does show up in the Gnome Menu now! :)
There is a bit of bad news however :/
The new desktop file has an entry:
Icon=teg
which gets it to use
/usr/share/pixmaps/teg.xpm
which is not very pretty (~8 colors?)
The package installs the teg_icono.png file to two separate locations,
neither of which is correct according to my understanding. The attached
patch installs a third copy of the file (as teg.png) which makes the
menus look pretty. At least for me, the launcher icon on the panel also

The attached debdiff adjusts the .desktop file to match the recent icon
name change, modifies it for validation, and copies it into
/usr/share/applications.
