Notice shrew vpn also has a bug (keeps asking for password on
unprotected certificates)...
Incidentaly, I also had to use the network manager plugin from this PPA

I've encountered the same issue. Crashes are slowing down the VPN
enormously as the connection has to be re-established. I'd be happy to
see a patched Natty release as well. As Georg mentioned, version 4.5.2
would be preferred.
