This JUST started happening to me today. I ran update manager on my system yesterday evening and something has gone and screwed up the wireless connectivity. Whenever it happens, the only way I can get it to work again is to restart the machine. Same module (r8192se_pci). I also found that using

[regarding comment #8] Unfortunately accepting a kernel update from the update manager causes the compat-wireless-3 modules to be ignored, forcing a reinstallation. I was unable to find an official package using DKMS for compat-wireless-3, which would be very handy. Googling turned up

Same issue, same chipset. I e-mailed Realtek and got their latest driver, which I posted here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1267961page=14 I also had luck with the 3.0 kernel, but I wanted to stay on the stock Natty kernel rather than the RC4 3.0. Hope this helps. -- You received

Same. Even in 10.04. I tried the drivers RTL8191SE-VA2 and RTL8192SE from realtek site : http://218.210.127.131/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1PNid=21PFid=48Level=5Conn=4DownTypeID=3GetDown=falseDownloads=true and added the line options r8192se_pci hwwep=0 to /etc/modprobe.d/realtek.conf
