Public bug reported:

When I used Ubuntu 11.04 (standard desktop edition) the eee-pc 901 power
button works out of the box.

I checked that in lubuntu's power management preferences, the power
button was supposed to bring up the "shutdown/ reboot / suspend /
logout"  menu. However, the power button doesn't do anything.

I was unable to find a solution by searching on google.
