That distro have reached EOL since a while; and such problem has been
resolved long time ago.

Solved following the steps described by George (#4).
Why isn't an easier way to get a fix on such an issue? It took me a while to
find the solution, what should a non experience user do in such cases...?

Same issue: disabled the gtalk plugin and ran sudo add-apt-repository
ppa:sevenmachines/flash sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install
flashplugin64-installer. Issue was resolved immediately.

the bug is: remove google-talk plugin, re-install and all is fine

You see. I was about to post that I've solved it by adding:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sevenmachines/flash sudo apt-get update sudo
apt-get install flashplugin64-installer
It worked for me...
