This seems to be caused by compiling glusterfs with -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2, which also seems to be the default in gcc. I rebuilt gluster-client with -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=1 and that "fixes" the problem. Details: http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2004-09/msg02055.html Quick workaround: mkdir glusterfs c
