Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: live-installer

Previous installation: Ubuntu 11.04 x86
Live-USB: Ubuntu 11.04 x64

I had to reinstall my Ubuntu for several reasons and decided to make the jump
to x64 on this occasion.
As i wanted to preserve my stuff i didn't format the drive and just accepted
the "potential loss of data" of which the installer warned me.
The installation worked out, but i couldn't boot; getting the error message:
"reqest_module: runaway loop modprobe binfmt-464c".
It appears that this is an issue from running x86 on x64 or vice versa and made
the installation completely unusable (not even comman-line).

>From a live version i could see that the old kernel (x86) had remained
installed without even being changed!

The issue is already solved, I just deleted the /boot directory and
reinstalled again, it works now as it should.

As reinstalling Ubuntu is a rather common task there should be a fix for
this, espacially since the installer actually says "Will delete system
directories" and there was a step in the installation progress called
"Removing system files" or something.

I don't know if some people which there old kernels to stay in place
when reinstalling, but at least when changing the architecture they
sould be deleted.

** Affects: live-installer (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
