The problem happens when adjusting the volume from the sound menu or
using the keyboard volume keys.
I tried launching alsamixer but I get the following message :
$ LANG=C alsamixer
cannot open mixer: No such file or directory
I have no /etc/asound.conf or ~/.asoundrc on this system.

if you adjust the volume from the sound menu, does the same problem
occur?
Please try adjusting the master volume in alsamixer. Open a terminal,
and run alsamixer, then use the up and down arrows to change the master
volume. P
