Also still having this problem. Xubuntu (feisty)
update-manager 0.53.3
python-dbus 0.80.1-1
Works fine with sudo but not as regular user.
Error reads as follows:

It seems that more precisely this is bug #81220 so I posted the crash
log there too.

It does not seem to be fixed in 20070123 amd64 desktop iso installation
(in vmware).
After installing all the 37 updates, the bug persists for me.
Running update-manager in a root terminal gives:
warning: could not initiate dbus
Unhandled exception in thread started by bound method
UBfusion what version of update-manager is it? and what version of
python-dbus. Also can you attach the crashreport.
