Thanks for the information John and Omer. I guess I didn't notice the
existing shortcuts as my system is an upgrade from maverick. Should
we mark this as 'Won't Fix', since doing so would cause a regression?
I can continue to manually map these keys for the behaviour I want.

Change to a new workspace: Ctrl-Alt ← / → / ↑ / ↓
Place window to a new workspace: Ctrl-Alt-Shift ← / → / ↑ / ↓
As Omer Akram said, the Ctrl-Alt number shortcuts are currently bound to
window movement, so the most logical keys for the functionality you
setting as incomplete as we wait for design, atm ctrl+alt+numbers change
the position of the active window in a way like your numpad is your
screen for example if you press ctrl+alt+7 it will resize the window to
covertop left area of the screen

It might be a good idea, but you couldn't reuse the Ctrl+Alt+Num
combination because it's already in use for positioning windows on the
screen.
