I had a similar problem. In my case appears to be related to phppgadmin
package that would not "remove" from Edgy. It was reinstalled and apt
seemed happy with the package database.
During upgrade (after 4 hours of downloading!) failed almost right away

if you haven't run update-manager since, the files in /var/log/dist-
upgrade are probably still valid. So if you could attach them here, that
would be nice.

Hi,
I have since updated the system many times and not tried to update with
update manager again. So the /var/log/dist-upgrade is no longer valid I
think.

$ update-manager -d
There should be a little button offering to upgrade to 7.04. Click on it
and wait for the error. If it appears, please attach the files in
/var/log/dist-upgrade/ to this bugreport.

I would like to see the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade to make sure its
a duplicate of that bug. Different things can cause the same output.
