my lsusb outut:
Bus 002 Device 006: ID 0bda:8176 Realtek Semiconductor Corp.
according Julian Wiedmann (julianw) @ #2 ,i lookup the rtl8192cu driver ,do
some google , it lead me to this link:
http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=2&PNid=21&PFid=48
Any progress with this issue?
I'm having same problems - driver is loaded and network is visible, but 99% of
times it can't connect (few times it did, but speed was too slow and connection
did not last long)
95869.731915] rtl8192cu: MAC auto ON okay!
[95869.768520] rtl8192cu: Tx queue select: 0
I've had reports from users that this module has trouble establishing
and maintaining a connection. I'll dig further once I get access to the
machine in question ...

Oops, wrong module. But the correct module is backported to Natty with
no manual modprobe needed ...
~$ sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-cw-2.6.39-natty-
generic
~$ dmesg | grep rtl8192
[ 305.707433] rtl8192cu: MAC address: 00:a1:b0:88:26:ed
[ 305.707446] rtl8192cu: Board Type 0
After doing a modprobe on natty, something shows up:
~$ sudo modprobe r8192u_usb
~$ dmesg | grep 8192
[ 4047.902624] r8192u_usb: module is from the staging directory, the quality is

My results so far:
On 11.10 Oneiric alpha / daily build & fully updated (2011-08-04), I can
not get the dongle to work. See the problems above.
On 11.04 Natty, the wifi dongle does correctly work after a manual
download/make/make install/reboot sequence (see below)
So the driver in the 3.0.0-7-g
FWIW: some more output:

I'm now running Oneiric daily build (2011-08-03) fully updated, with
kernel 3.0.0-7-generic. The network app in the upper right corner does
see Wifi-network, but still I have no luck in getting connected to my
open network. See dmesg snippet below.
guest-PNFmm3@ubuntu:~$ uname -a
Linux ubuntu 3.0
Update:
I removed the wifi security from my network to make things easier, but I
still can't to it using the USB dongle. I used "gnome-control-center
network" and CLI commands ("sudo iwconfig wlan1 essid MyNetwork" etc),
but with no result. A snippet from dmesg:
[ 692.537349] wlan1: direct probe
A FYI:
With Ubuntu Oneiric Alpha 2 with kernel 3.0.0-5-generic, the usb wifi
dongle seems to be recognized. See snippets below.
FWIW: I can't configure anything via the network applet in the upper
right corner (does not work either for the built-in wifi, so probably a
GUI / applet bug), but 'sudo
Should be fixed with the 3.0-rc7 mainline build and oneiric's 3.0.0-5.6
kernel. Can you confirm?

The device is claimed by the rtl8192cu wifi driver, available with
kernel 2.6.39+. This driver is currently considered EXPERIMENTAL, that's
why it's not turned on in the mainline builds.
