You can do "sudo dpkg --clear-avail" to get rid of the error you are
seeing. But that doesn't explain why the error appeared, most likely
some sort of file corruption. And the related bug is not more helpful.
For the failed removal, try to finish the installation with "sudo apt-
get install linux-

I was using synaptic to purge an installed packagel
E: linux-headers-3.0-0: Package is in a very bad inconsistent state -
you should reinstall it before attempting a removal.
I have attempted to remove this package and keep getting
Can you please elaborate a little bit on what happened? Did update-
manager crash? In that case the bug should be in update-manager (you
aren't supposed to be able to run an update while using synaptic or
software-center, but it should handle it gracefully)
