This still remains a problem with Debian 7.2. I have just upgraded a
Debian 6 server to 7.2 and have noticed this issue.
This guy appears to have an understand of the problem, but there was no
solution:

Hello, same story for me. At work, I upgraded from 10.04 to 12.04, and
can no longer connect to the two cifs shares I had listed in fstab. The
kernel is 3.2.0-24-generic. If I boot into the old (2.6.32-41) kernel,
it works. I use one share for backups, and the other for file sharing,
so it'd be nic
I can confirm the same behavior in ubuntu 12.04. This is a showstopper
bug for those of us needing to access windows shares in our work
environment. Mount commands that work in 10.04 do not work in 12.04.
Please address.

this works ok :
mount.cifs //server/share /mountpoint

I have a couple of lines in my fstab which go like this:
//server/share /wheretomount cifs
uid=flart,gid=users,credentials=/etc/wincredentials 0 0
If i do a "mount -a", i get a this for every share i have in my fstab:
mount error(112): H
Sorry should be Ubuntu 11.10 with kernel 3.0-0 and 3.0-1 that I have the
problem with.
