Cypress driver mentioned in #36 does not work on the XPS 13, nor do
older versions of it (although they do compile and load against kernel
3.3.x). Emailed the original developer to see if any newer code exists.
Touchpad does work out of the box on 3.3, just no multitouch support.

The XPS 13 also uses a Cypress touchpad, which can be confirmed by going
to http://support.dell.com/ and downloading the touchpad driver for this
system. Comment #36 notes the existence of a Cypress touchpad kernel
driver developed by Cypress, but it is not in the mainline kernel or the
kernel in P
I agree with jcat. Adding options psmouse proto=imps to
/etc/modprobe.d/options.conf enabled trackpad but it's still hard to
use.
Multi gesture is not working and just slightly hovering over trackpad
while typing leads to undesired click which is annoying.
Is there any chance to get an update of
Hi,
I also have the XPS 15z running Oneiric, it's got a lovely big touchpad, but
because it's so big it's hard not to accidentally touch as you type!
That is very annoying.
So wile forcing the psmouse kernel module into a "fail safe" mode does
make it work, we still need to be able to get it pr
I can confirm that this has enabled trackpad functionality on my XPS15z.
I am not sure how this is supposed to be incorporated into the next
Ubuntu version, but following the instructions here:

Has anyone confirmed that this works and if so can they report how to
implement the fix ???
TIA

Sounds like Livio has found a solution with kernel 3.0-rc5.
Excuse the probably stupid question but is there any way to get it to
work with a regular ubunut 11.04 or do we need to wait for kernel 3.0?

Awesome find Livio! I guess part of this bugreport should go to psmouse,
making it use the correct protocol by default to get this working out of
the box. The other part is getting a real full-featured Cypress trackpad
driver in the kernel :)

I also have a Dell XPS 15z, and the trackpad was initially not working.
I'm using Debian/unstable, but with with kernel 3.0-rc5. After playing with the
psmouse
module a bit, I managed to get it to work. Namely, any of these commands worked
for me:
rmmod psmouse; modprobe psmouse proto=bare

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I'm assigning this provisionally to the Linux kernel,
since it looks like your kernel fails to recognize the pointing device.
I'd like to ask you for some more information to better assess the
problem.
