I think I found the culprit. I disabled the wireless modules (added rt2x00pci, rt2x00lib, rt2800pci and rt2800lib to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf) and ubuntu 11.04 with kernel 2.6.38-8 worked fine again: suspend, resume, shutdown, restart worked ok. I can live without wireless on that

Thank you Abhishek for your prompt answer. The CD looks actually fine: doing a md5sum -c md5sum.txt |grep -v OK on the top level md4sum.txt file in the cd gave no output (ie the keys are fine). And in fact the first time I installed it Ubuntu worked fine. Am I right in assuming that during

I attached some of the log of the system, just in case. Strange enough, even if I just tried to suspend it (Sun 26 June, at about 08:40), the pm-suspend.log file did not record anything. G ** Attachment added: pm-suspend.log

Another question: assuming that during the CD installation some package is downloaded from the net, even if I disabled the install upgrades checkbox, is there any way to know which packages had a new release over the last 1-2 weeks? Thanks a lot -- You received this bug notification because

If you had disabled the updates they would not have downloaded. It seems to be a kernel issue. ** Package changed: ubuntu = linux (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is

New tests: I downloaded on a CD the 10.04 LTS version of Ubuntu (kernel 2.6.32-28). When running from the CD it worked fine (shutdown and restart were ok, suspend did not resume - but I guess that is another story) and monitor resolution was not detected fine. Thus I guess my original problem

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. While we appreciate the difficulties you are facing, it would appear that the CD could be corrupt. If you burnt the CD from a CD image (ISO file) there is an easy way to verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO
