Thanks, Fabio. I'm following up on this in other issues I've filed, and

Hello,
I can only suggest you to take a look here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume#Debugging_Hibernate
Or attach here a kern.log containing an Hybernation failure so I can suggest
you something.
Thanks

I understand. What I don't understand is whether they're related -
that's much, much easier for you to determine than me. If you tell me
they're unrelated, I can file other bugs.

Hibernation also doesn't work, the machine just reboots at startup and
then starts normally the second time around.

Possibly entirely unrelated, but worth raising somewhere: neither of the
3.0.0 kernels lets me suspend my laptop. I haven't tried hibernation
yet.

Some more possibly unrelated feedback: the noise I hear on the docking
station's audio output? Happens on the built-in speakers with
3.0.0-0300rc6 now, too. Even when I have headphones plugged in. I'm not
sure what that's about.

if you want to try is disposable a new version of the kernel:

headers-3.0.0-0300rc6_3.0.0-0300rc6.201107050905_all.deb

Port, as in audio port? Not really, no. I can try and run some audio
through the speakers for a while.
I haven't tried on another PC, I don't have many at my disposal ;)
Let me try the new kernel and tell you what happens.

I should say perhaps, the laptop's in a docking station, and the docking
station has its own audio port. That doesn't produce any sound, though,
just some vague rustling when I move the mouse cursor or switch
desktops.

Nope, doesn't seem to have worked. I'm attaching a new kern.log
Crash occurs around 15:29 on the 10th of July.

Well, one thing I have noticed almost immediately is completely
unrelated: my screensaver and some OpenGL-based games used to hang for a
split second or so sporadically, that's gone. No audio hiccups either,
but they weren't exactly predictable before. I'll report back in a few
days, I suppose
Hello

There's nothing in the log around the time of the freeze (I'd have been
surprised anyway).
To be more precise, the last log entry before the freeze was a good five
minutes earlier. I wouldn't hold my breath for more information on this,
unfortunately.
I've attached kern.log.1 - ca. 10:09 on July
