Furthermore I built stack-inspector and stack-print from the following branch:
lp:~smspillaz/+junk/stackinspector
and it's pretty clear that the launcher is last window in the windows
stack (see "_NET_CLIENT_LIST_STACKING (stacking order)").

@Mario: probably not, but the reason I filed it with Shutter as well
was because what I got with shutter was NOT what I was seeing on screen.
That may well be simply be part of the Unity issue though, I was erring
on the side of caution WRT to shutter.

Any love for this? I'd really like to see this resolved for Oneiric as
it is a pretty bad UI usability issue. The whole point of the launcher
on the left side was better use of screen realestate, but if I can't use
the launcher because I'm using the screen's real estate, what's the
point?

left side of my screen) you'll see that the launcher is clearly visible,
yet beneath all the open windows. Notice at the top (which is the right
side of my screen) you'll see the shutter window displaying the screen

You forgot to include the screenshot from Shutter. Also some apport-
collect would probably be useful to see what graphics card, Unity
version etc you're using.
