I used the (pre-release) x86 Jaunty Live CD from April 11, 2009 to
install and (with the same hardware) the bug is still there. I decided
to boot back to the Live CD to see what values were in /etc/usplash.conf
that worked; that was a bit of a surprise for me: other than the
commented out parts, i
I got bitten by this bug, but only just now with Intrepid; it wasn't a problem
in Hardy, Gutsy, etc.
More curious still is that an Ubuntu Live CD displays the splash fine... yet an
install does not.

During boot, my monitor displays the message (translated from french)
"Frequency too high". Note that this happens only on the version
