I've now fixed my problems with compiz. Now with compiz running, Cheese
starts up as expected.

Cheese SIGSEGV in cogl_create_context at st
I think this bug related to the fact that compiz isn't running (it crashes at
startup).
Still, Cheese should run anyway, also with metacity wm.
