Public bug reported: Howdy,
distro-info is a *phenomenally* useful tool. We have a couple of packages and tools in Ubuntu Main that could really benefit from the distro-info utility. (Specifically, I'm working on ubuntu-ec2-run in cloud-utils at the moment, but there are several others). We can't depend on distro-info at the moment since it's in Universe. We couldn't promote the distro-info binary package to Main without MIR'ing the ubuntu-dev-tools source package. I suspect that would be an unpopular decision, as that would move write access to ubuntu-dev-tools from MOTU to Core Dev. What would you think about splitting distro-info out to a separate source/binary package, for these reasons? I'm willing to help with the leg work. I'll review and accept the source/binary as an Archive Admin, and write the MIR. Thanks, :-Dustin ** Affects: ubuntu-dev-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - distro-info: split to separate package? + distro-info: split to separate source package? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/821161 Title: distro-info: split to separate source package?
