Public bug reported:

Howdy,

distro-info is a *phenomenally* useful tool.

We have a couple of packages and tools in Ubuntu Main that could really
benefit from the distro-info utility. (Specifically, I'm working on
ubuntu-ec2-run in cloud-utils at the moment, but there are several
others).

We can't depend on distro-info at the moment since it's in Universe. We
couldn't promote the distro-info binary package to Main without MIR'ing
the ubuntu-dev-tools source package. I suspect that would be an
unpopular decision, as that would move write access to ubuntu-dev-tools
from MOTU to Core Dev.

What would you think about splitting distro-info out to a separate
source/binary package, for these reasons?

I'm willing to help with the leg work. I'll review and accept the
source/binary as an Archive Admin, and write the MIR.

Thanks,
:-Dustin
