Problem half solved, I went into the BIOS and disabled the LAN port
and now the wireless works like it should, but there still is a problem
with the LAN port driver conflicting with the wireless driver. It is
usable now as a laptop

Upon further checking, could it be the new system of requiring an
internet connection is the problem, as I again tried to install using a
USB wireless card (Atheros which is recognized) and it still freezes.
