Doesn't look there is a BIOS update for this model. Not sure what else
there is to do except to declare that the unit I'm testing is defective.

Marc -- Have you had a look into BIOS updates and/or options which might
bring this card to life? From what I'm seeing here there's not a lot we
can do here from an OS perspective.

Hi Marc -- Looking at the results for both of the Intel Edge 15's we
have I do see that the realtek usb card reader /was/ present in natty
testing. As a quick sanity check, does it show up in a natty install or
is this issue isolated to oneiric?

Status:
Chris -- Looking at the two machines with natty, one has the card read
present in lsusb while the other does not. Unsurprisingly, the system
with the card reader in lsusb works normally while the other one does
not.

[Thinkpad Edge 15][Intel] SDHC/SD/MMC cards do not automount

Seth: I used multi cards, sd, sdhc, mmc with the system. Another Edge 15
system does work with the same cards and lsusb shows: 'Bus 001 Device
003: ID147e:1001 Upek' while this system does not. 'Realtek
Semiconductor Corp. USB 2.0 multicard reader' is not listed on either
machine.

Marc,
Could you please check whether there is an multicard reader controller
on USB bus? from your lsusb output, we don't see any card reader
hardware was enabled. And maybe try the method from Manoj.

I think what is missing is the lsusb output, can you please confirm that
lsusb lists
Realtek Semiconductor Corp. USB 2.0 multicard reader ?

?
Do you see in lsmod
usb-storage
scsi_mod
usb-uhci
usbcore
usb-storage must be loaded.
run sudo wodim -scanbus
Also, post the output of
1. cat /proc/bus/usb/devices

[Thinkpad Edge 15][Intel] SDHC/SD/MMC cards do not automount
To manage
I don't see a card reader device in the lspci output. Can you check
lsusb to see if a card reader device shows up? Be sure you have a card
inserted when you check, as some hardware disconnects the card reader
from the USB bus when there's no card present. Also be sure to try a few
different cards
